Biography

Ricardo Barbosa had his first oboe lessons with Alexandre Barros, in Ribeirao Preto – SP,Brazil. Later, he joined the “Universidade Livre de Música” in Sao Paulo, current EMESP to study with Joel Gisiger. During this period he won scholarship to OSESP Academy of Music where he also had Gisiger guidelines. After winning a scholarship to study in Europe, he was invited to study at the “Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln” in the class of Professor Christian Wetzel in Cologne, Germany, where he completed his Master and Doctorate in performance, both with full marks. In Cologne he also had regular classes with the Hochschule guest teachers: Washington Barella, Kai Frömbgen, Michael Sieg and Peter Veale.

In Brazil he won the Preludio Award from “TV Cultura” and Eleazar de Carvalho Prize; He won the first oboe prize of the Music School of Cologne Competition, Germany, and after being in the semi-final of “The Muri Competition” in Switzerland, and the 3. prize at the Prague Spring International Competition, one of the most important competitions for oboe.

He’s oboist of the Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra (OSESP) since 2011, which has worked with names like Frank Shipway, Heinz Holliger, Louis Langrée, Eiji Oue, Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, Kristjan Järvi among others; He is also professor of oboe and contemporary repertoire in the Sao Paulo State Music School, EMESP. Since 2015 he is oboe professor at the “Music in the Mountains Festival” in the city of Pocos de Caldas – MG, Brazil.
